On the nyc subway reading Ellul,
My eyes chanced upon a billboard decrying
"God hears you", "God is concerned with your troubles",
among hundreds of similar modern heresies. "The words of the prophet
were written on the subway walls"."  The Church in
question was using God to attract members, obviously.  Was it to
save people?  Or was it to promote their own goals.  Of course the
answer is just what Ellul would describe as technology serving itself.
For indeed, Mass propagandizing has no other effect than to serve itself.
It wouldn't be mass propaganda if it didn't.  Sadly, the last surviving bulwark
against the erosion of spirituality has succumbed.  Armageddon is around the corner my friends.........

No its not the end of the world date.  It is much more relevant that that.  It is the number of days left in your life if you are 8 and die at 88.  That's right you probably have less than that number of days left to live.  If fact most of you have somewhere around 23,000 days left!  23,000 thats it!  You better not waste another day!!  You have less days left than the annual salary of someone making a bit more than minimum wage.  To put this in perspective, here are some other stats to compare with:

• The circumference of the earth between the 2 poles is a bit over 24,000 miles
• Humans migrated out of Africa and began to conolize the Earth about 70,000 years ago;  the earth formed about 8 billion years ago.

Feel free to add your own comparisons.  The point is DON'T WASTE ANOTHER DAY OF YOUR LIFE!!  AT BEST YOU'LL ONLY BE AROUND FOR ANOTHER 23,000 DAYS OR SO

Life in NYC - Trying to get to work........

ok, so you know how the subway escalators during rush hour are very crowded and some of the stations like 53rd & Lex and as it turns out the new South Ferry station have these rather long ascents to the street level. So I get off at South Ferry after a particularly annoying commute and I'm listening to my ipod standing in the "left" lane of the escalator because there is NO ROOM in the right lane (after all I am a "good" citizen and try to give my fellow commuters who want to save the extra second or so by using the left lane as stairs the opportunity to do so). So I'm standing in the left lane and suddenly feel a hard tap on my shoulder. I turn around and see this irate women trying to tell me something (I thought she might be giving birth by the look of urgency in her face). Now a bit aggravated myself due to her inconsiderate behavior in interrupting my listening to The Racontuers before I have to face the misery of the working day, I remove my ultimate-ears to hear exactly why shes having a conniption. "You cant just stand there" she bellows. "Well this is an ESCALATOR and that's why I'm on it, so I can just STAND here!" I respectfully reply. "Don't you know the left lane is for walking or are you from Idaho" she rips back. "And what the fuck are those stairs for right next to you you moron" I say perhaps a little less politely. By this time (all of maybe 2-3 seconds thats has now set her back) we arrive at the top of the escalator and she looks at me with rage in her eyes and says " You fucking asshole, I hope you get hit by a train! " Nice way of starting my day, don't you think?

On to number 2: So I exit onto street level and almost bump into 3 what look like Terminator people who are actually those "special" SWAT cops wearing hard-core black helmets with some sort of heavy duty sub-machine guns at the ready. So I think, "you know if that woman were one of these gi joe people, she just might be anxious to finally put that cool sub-machine gun to use instead of just having to lug it around all day long!" And what better purpose to put it to than blowing away all those mindless losers causing us Ayn Rand type-A Masters of the Universe to lose precious seconds from our very important lives by blocking the left lane of the escalator!!

Seriously though, how long do you think it would be before one of those Terminator SWAT guys want to actually use their cool Uzzis or whatever they are instead of wearing it all day long? I mean dressed like that I think I would be looking for every opportunity to find evildoers and save the world......

Prove to me this is false:

The current market volatility is being created by traders who finally has the public totally non-chalant about 3 digit makets moves. Traders DO NO do well in a monotically increasing or deceasing market (i.e. bull or bear) but live on short-term fluctuations (i.e. volatility). This is the highest volatility I've seen in my lifetime and you can bet there are TRADERS making a shitload of money off of it and will prolong it for as long as possible....
